Rox v. Sox

Posted by Bartleby on October 22, 2007

how many times am I going to have to hear that? At least the Red Sox have a legitimate claim to usage to Sox instead of Socks since it is their bona fide name.  Perhaps we should just rename the Rockies the Colorado Rox and be done with it.

may I have another?

A buddy of mine was apparently channeling the same Rox frustration.

I hopped on over to the espn.com last night after the big win and what did I find but the main headline:

Rocktoberfest!

What will the next cleaver fusion be?

Go Rox.

Posted by Bartleby on October 15, 2007

So the Colorado Rockies are on an amazing roll, and I am officially on the bandwagon.  And for the first time I am actually interested in baseball.  In years past I have tried to get into America’s favorite pastime but it just didn’t grab me like it is this year.

I am usually a proponent of puns and cleaver slang but this Go Rox shit really annoys me.  Does it make it cooler to use a x rather than a cks, or even spelling it all out? It certainly doesn’t have the enthusiastic effect on me that it is trying to portray. Sure a lot of teams have their nicknames,Yanks, Huskers, Gators, D-BagsBacks etc., but do we really have to go to that level and somewhat copy the Red Sox?  It makes me cringe and emits a corny uneducated persona. It’s stupid. Don’t even get me started on Rocktober.

That said, Go Rockies!
